Tucson, AZ (March 11, 2007) – The DeSales University softball team opened its 2007 season with a 4-2 record during its spring break trip out west to Tucson, AZ for the Tucson Invitational played at the Julie Reiton Softball Complex last week.
The Bulldogs earned wins over Concordia University (IL), Wisconsin Lutheran College, Robert Morris College and LaRoche College, while falling to Aquinas College and St. Ambrose University. DSU batted .320 as a team and had a 4.72 team ERA during the trip. DeSales stole 17-of-18 bases and hit three home runs.
Among the top individual performers was senior Elise Wilk (Philadelphia, PA/Nazareth Academy) who posted a 3-1 record with a 2.40 ERA in three starts and a team-high 23.1 innings pitched. Wilk had 17 strikeouts and opponent’s batted just .233 off her during the trip.
At the plate senior Jennifer Cybularz (Philadelphia, PA/Archbishop Carroll), sophomore Jamie Pfitzenmayer (Annandale, NJ/Hunterdon Central) and freshman Kerri Andrews (Bethlehem, PA/Bethlehem Catholic) all led the way batting .400 (9-for-20) on the week.
Pfitzenmayer had a team-high six RBI’s, hit one home run and stole four bases, Cybularz had four RBI’s and two doubles and Andrews scored four runs and had three doubles.
Sophomore Amanda Kensecki (Bethlehem, PA/Liberty) batted .375 with five runs scored, senior Amanda Martinenza (Boothwyn, PA/Garnet Valley) finished the week batting .300 with five RBI’s and two doubles and freshman Emily Hoffman (Laceyville, PA/Wyalusing Valley) and sophomore Kelly Moran (Bethlehem, PA/Bethlehem Catholic) each hit home runs during the week.
The Bulldogs return to action on Sunday, March 18th when they travel to Lebanon Valley College for a non-conference doubleheader beginning at 1:00 pm.
