Thomer Scores Five Goals, Stamatelos sets Ground Ball Record in 10-3 Win over Alvernia

Senior Jon-Erik Stamatelos picked up nine ground balls to become the school's all-time leader with 318 in his career on Wednesday.
 
Center Valley, PA (March 28, 2007) –­ Junior Dan Thomer (Philadelphia, PA/Archbishop Ryan) scored five goals and added one assist and senior Jon-Erik Stamatelos (Cherry Hill, NJ/Cherry Hill West) became the school’s all-time leader in ground balls as he picked up nine on Wednesday afternoon in a 10-3 win over Alvernia College in non-conference action.
 
        The win is second three-game winning streak on the season for the Bulldogs who are now 6-2 overall.  The two three-game streaks tie the record for most consecutive wins as DSU will look to break that record on Saturday at King’s College.  Alvernia falls to 2-5 overall with the loss.
 
        DeSales opened up a 6-0 halftime lead and never looked back in the second half to improve to 3-0 on its home field this season.  The Bulldogs had 47 ground balls and scored its 10 goals on just 25 shots.
 
        Thomer set the tone with five tallies on just 10 shots and also added an assist to take his season scoring total to 26 goals and five assists for a team-leading 31 points.  Sophomore Joshua Van Hart (Glen Gardner, NJ/Voorhees) also got in the scoring act with two goals and sophomore Matthew Brancaccio (Greenvale, NY/North Shore) had one goal and one assist.
 
        Rounding out the scoring was sophomore Danny Larkin (Holladay, UT/Olympus) and freshman Adam Eddinger (Bally, PA/Boyertown) with one goal each and junior Sam Gobeli (Baltimore, MD/Archbishop Curley) with two assists and freshman Jarryd Stamatelos (Cherry Hill, NJ/Cherry Hill West) with his first career assist out of the goalkeeper position.
 
        Stamatelos also made 10 saves in between the pipes, while the elder Stamatelos increased his career ground ball total to 318 with the nine today to pass Dylan Beese for first on the all-time list. 

          DeSales will look for its fourth straight win and its second straight conference win on Saturday when they travel to King’s College for an MAC Conference game beginning at 1:00 pm.
