Bulldog Bats Stay Hot, Baseball Sweeps Aggies in Weekend Series

Junior Andrew Heard was a combined 6-for-8 with five runs scored in the doubleheader sweep at Delaware Valley College on Saturday.

Doylestown, PA (March 31, 2007) – The DeSales University offense continued its torrid hitting scoring 23 runs on Saturday to finish off a three-game sweep in the weekend series with Freedom Conference foe Delaware Valley College winning game one, 10-0, and game two, 13-5 at Frank Wolfgang Field.

The Bulldogs are now 9-5 overall and 4-0 in the Freedom Conference, while the Aggies fall to 4-7 overall and 0-4 in the Freedom.  DSU scored 40 runs over the three games with DVC and have now reached double digits in nine of 14 games this season.

In game one, junior JT Brotosky (Bethlehem, PA/Liberty) and freshman Doc Neiman (Center Valley, PA/Southern Lehigh) earned Co-Cambridge Search player of the game honors as Brotosky had his strongest outing of the season on the mound pitching four shutout innings allowing just two hits and striking out four to earn his second win of the season and Neiman finished 2-for-4 with two runs scored including a double igniting a five-run sixth inning that clinched the game one win.

DSU led 2-0 early in game one when the Aggies threatened in the bottom of the fifth inning as they loaded the bases on three walks.  Senior Jon Kensecki (Bethlehem, PA/Liberty) came into the game in relief and struck out the only batter he faced to spoil the rally and preserve the shutout.  DeSales exploded for five tallies in the top of the sixth to take a 7-0 lead and cruised the rest of the way.

Along with Neiman, junior Andrew Heard (Alexandria, VA/Hayfield) finished game one 2-for-3 with two runs scored and junior Scott Matejicka (Whitehall, PA/Whitehall) was 2-for-4 with two runs scored and three RBI’s.  Sophomore Matt Connors (Sewell, NJ/Washington Township) also chipped in with two hits and two RBI’s in the game one win.

In game two, Delaware Valley erased a three-run deficit in the third inning when they plated four runs to take a 5-4 lead.  The Aggies continued to lead by one in the top of the sixth when the DSU offense came to life scoring eight times giving DSU a 12-5 lead before the Bulldogs settled for the 13-5 margin with one more run in the top of the seventh.

Heard and Kensecki shared Co-Cambridge Search player of the game honors in game two as Kensecki was stellar once again out of the bullpen pitching 1.2 scoreless innings and stranding a total of five base-runners in the fifth and sixth innings.  Heard was simply on fire at the plate going 4-for-5 with three runs scored and three RBI’s in the game two win including a double, triple and stolen base in his offensive line.

In addition to Heard, Matejicka continued his hot hitting going 2-for-2 with a home run and three RBI’s.  Sophomore Mike Pennington (Dresher, PA/LaSalle) was 1-for-3 with a triple and two RBI’s and senior Matt Lezinsky (Bethlehem, PA/Liberty) had two hits, one run scored and one RBI.  Kensecki earned the win in relief, improving to 2-1 on the season.

The Bulldogs will return to action on Tuesday, April 3rd when they travel to College Misericordia for a non-conference game beginning at 3:30 pm.
