Wilkes-Barre, PA (March 31, 2007) – The DeSales University men’s lacrosse team earned its program best fourth straight win and has already equaled its highest win total in a season with its 15-11 victory over King’s College on Saturday afternoon in an MAC conference game.
DSU is now 7-2 overall and 2-1 in the MAC and has matched its highest win total in a season after just nine games played. The Bulldogs also won seven games in 1999 and 2001 and the four-game winning streak is the longest in school history. The loss drops King’s to 1-7 overall and 1-3 in the MAC.
The Bulldogs wasted no time in taking control of this game jumping out to a 7-2 halftime edge and led 11-6 after three periods. DSU led 15-7 with 3:37 left to play before the Monarchs made a late push to cut the lead to 15-11 as time expired. DeSales held a 46-27 edge in shots and a 41-39 advantage in ground balls. Freshman Jarryd Stamatelos (Cherry Hill, NJ/Cherry Hill West) was again stellar in between the pipes allowing just seven goals and making 14 saves in the win.
Leading the scoring attack was sophomore
Matthew Brancaccio (Greenvale, NY/North Shore) with a team-high seven points on three goals and four assists. Junior
Dan Thomer (Philadelphia, PA/Archbishop Ryan) had four goals and an assist and sophomores
Danny Larkin (Holladay, UT/Olympus) and
Joshua Van Hart (Glen Gardner, NJ/Voorhees) each scored two goals.
Freshman Matthew Kruszewski (Atco, NJ/Winslow Township) had one goal and three assists, junior Shane Corley (Philadelphia, PA/Father Judge) added one assist and junior Kevin Thomer (Philadelphia, PA/Archbishop Ryan), sophomore Andrew Ervin (Langhorne, PA/Neshaminy) and junior James Ramsey (Philadelphia, PA/Father Judge) each scored one goal to round out the scoring attack.
The Bulldogs will return to action looking to make it five straight wins on Wednesday, April 4th when they host Moravian College in another MAC Conference game beginning at 3:30 pm.
