Wayne, NJ (April 1, 2007) – The DeSales University softball team suffered its eighth straight loss falling to William Paterson University in both ends of a non-conference doubleheader by scores of 11-3 and 7-3 on Sunday afternoon at Pioneer Softball Field.
The Bulldogs are now 4-10 overall, while the Pioneers improve to 13-5 overall. DeSales managed just six hits and three runs in each game and left eight men on-base in the second contest.
In game one after DSU took a 1-0 lead in the top of first inning, Paterson scored three times in the bottom of the first and four times in the second inning to take a commanding 7-0 advantage. DeSales scored twice in the top of the fourth inning to cut the lead down to 7-3, but the Pioneers tallied two runs in both the fourth and fifth to earn the eight-run win.
Freshman Kristen Cybularz (Philadelphia, PA/Archbishop Carroll) took the loss allowing all 11 runs in 4.2 innings pitched. Senior Jennifer Cybularz (Philadelphia, PA/Archbishop Carroll) was 2-for-3 with an RBI and K. Cybularz and sophomore Jamie Pfitzenmayer (Annandale, NJ/Hunterdon Central) each had one hit and one run scored.
In game two, WPU broke open a tie game at one with five runs in the bottom of the third inning to help record the sweep. DSU rallied with two runs in the top of the sixth inning but were unable to find anymore offense in the loss. Senior Elise Wilk (Philadelphia, PA/Nazareth Academy) suffered the loss lasting 5.2 innings allowing 12 hits and five earned runs.
Sophomore Kelly Moran (Bethlehem, PA/Bethlehem Catholic) had two hits, one run and one RBI in game two and Pfitzenmayer also collected two hits and one RBI to lead the offensive attack.
The Bulldogs will return to action on Tuesday, April 3rd when they host Moravian College in the first home doubleheader of the season beginning at 3:00 pm.
