Madison, NJ (April 14, 2007) – The DeSales University softball team settled for its fourth straight split of a doubleheader winning game one, 3-2, before dropping game two, 3-1, at Drew University on Saturday afternoon in a Freedom Conference doubleheader.
The split moves DeSales to 8-14 overall and 3-7 in the Freedom Conference. In the opener, senior Elise Wilk (Philadelphia, PA/Nazareth Academy) was perfect thru three innings and held off a seventh inning rally by the Rangers to earn her fifth win of the season. She struck out five and allowed just six hits over seven innings pitched.
DSU put its first run on the board in the second inning when sophomore Jamie Pfitzenmayer (Annandale, NJ/Hunterdon Central) singled home senior Jaime Stover (Perkasie, PA/Pennridge) and added two more runs in the fifth on an RBI single from sophomore Kelly Moran (Bethlehem, PA/Bethlehem Catholic) and one Ranger error.
Sophomore Amanda Kensecki (Bethlehem, PA/Bethlehem Catholic) finished the game 2-for-4 with a run scored as seven different Bulldogs had hits in the win.
In game two, DSU managed just five hits with its sole run coming on an RBI single from senior Amanda Martinenza (Boothwyn, PA/Garnet Valley) in the fourth inning. Wilk went the distance in game two as well allowing seven hits and three runs, while striking out six to fall to 5-8 on the year.
DSU returns to action on Wednesday, April 18th when they host Kean University in a non-conference doubleheader beginning at 3:00 pm.
