Center Valley, PA (April 18, 2007) – Senior Elise Wilk (Philadelphia, PA/Nazareth Academy) tossed a four-hit shutout in game one striking out seven to lead the DeSales University softball team to a 3-0 win in game one as the Bulldogs split a non-conference doubleheader with the Cougars, dropping game two, 6-0, on Wednesday afternoon.
Wilk allowed only five base-runners the entire day and lowered her season ERA to 3.19. The blanking is the fifth of her career and the seven K’s move her within 18 of becoming just the second player in DeSales (9-15 overall) history to record 200 strikeouts in a career.
Wilk got all the run support she needed in the first inning as sophomore Amanda Kensecki (Bethlehem, PA/Liberty) knocked in freshman Kyra Monarek (Allentown, PA/Parkland) for the first run, sophomore Kelly Moran (Bethlehem, PA/Bethlehem Catholic) doubled to score senior Jennifer Cybularz (Philadelphia, PA/Archbishop Carroll) freshman Kerri Andrews (Bethlehem, PA/Bethlehem Catholic) singled home Kensecki to round out the scoring for the game, all in the first inning.
In the second game, Kean (20-6 overall) sophomore Maryelise Gierke was the difference tossing a two-hit shutout with five strikeouts to improve to 15-1 on the season. KU scored twice in the first inning on a two-run home run from Sara Steinman, twice in the fifth on a two-run double from Kara Schultz and twice in the seventh on a two-run double from Steinman.
J. Cybularz and senior Amanda Martinenza (Boothwyn, PA/Garnet Valley) had the lone hits for the Bulldogs in game two. Freshman Kristen Cybularz (Philadelphia, PA/Archbishop Carroll) took the loss allowing seven hits and six runs while striking out three.
The Bulldogs return to action on Saturday, April 21st when they host Lycoming College in a Freedom Conference doubleheader beginning at 1:00 pm.
