Baseball rebounds with 6-1 Win over Ursinus; Wentz improves to 2-0

 
Center Valley, PA (April 25, 2007) – The DeSales University baseball team shook off a rough night on Tuesday night with a 6-1 win over Ursinus College on Wednesday afternoon in non-conference action at Butz Field.
 
        The game was shortened to just five innings because of the rain that hit the Lehigh Valley mid-way thru the afternoon.  The Bulldogs improve to 21-10 overall with the win, while the loss drops the Bears to 22-11 overall.
 
        DSU took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning when junior JT Brotosky (Bethlehem, PA/Liberty) knocked in sophomore Matt Connors (Sewell, NJ/Washington Township) with a double.  The Bulldogs increased its lead to 2-0 in the bottom of the third inning when junior Scott Matejicka (Whitehall, PA/Whitehall) hit a sacrifice fly to right-field plating freshman Doc Neiman (Center Valley, PA/Southern Lehigh) who had reached via error to lead-off the third.
 
        In the bottom of the fourth, DeSales tallied four more runs as Connors knocked in one run, the Bulldogs scored two runs on two Bear errors and senior Matt Lezinsky (Bethlehem, PA/Liberty) stole home with the innings fourth run.
 
        Freshman Ronnie Wentz (Hellertown, PA/Saucon Valley) earns both the win and Cambridge Search Player of the Game honors as he tossed his first career complete-game allowing just five hits and one unearned run to go along with three strikeouts.  Wentz is now 2-0 with a 3.00 ERA this season.
 
        Connors and junior Andrew Heard (Alexandria, VA/Hayfield) each had two hits and a run scored in the win, while Brotosky, Matejicka and Connors each knocked in one run.  Connors also had three stolen bases and Lezinsky swiped two bases.
 
        The Bulldogs return to action on Friday, April 27th when they travel to FDU-Florham for the first of three-games vs. the Devils this weekend.  Game time on Friday is set for 3:30 pm.
