Men’s Lacrosse finishes season with 14-9 loss to Elizabethtown

Senior Ben Conroy made 15 saves in his final collegiate start on Saturday afternoon.
 
Center Valley, PA (April 28, 2007) – The DeSales University men’s lacrosse team wrapped up its 2007 season with a 14-9 loss to Elizabethtown College in an MAC Conference game on Saturday afternoon.
 
        The Bulldogs finish the year with a 7-9 overall record and a 2-8 mark in the MAC.  The seven wins match the highest win total in a season which was also achieved in 1999 and 2001.  The Blue Jays improve to 10-4 overall and 7-3 in the MAC.
 
        DSU trailed 6-4 late in the second period when E-Town scored four straight goals to open up a 10-4 lead and never really looked back.  The Blue Jays held a 55-36 edge in total shots and picked up two more ground balls (42-40) than the Bulldogs.  EC won 13 face-offs as compared 12 for the Bulldogs and neither team was able to take advantage of the extra-man situations with the two combining for 14 missed extra-man opportunities.
 
        Leading the Bulldogs was junior Dan Thomer (Philadelphia, PA/Archbishop Ryan) with three goals and one assist for four points.  Sophomore Matthew Brancaccio (Greenvale, NY/North Shore) had two goals and two assists to finish the season with a team-high 26 goals and 30 assists for 56 points.  His 30 assists fall just one shy of breaking the single-season record of 31 helpers.
 
        Sophomore Joshua Van Hart (Glen Gardner, NJ/Voorhees) totaled two goals and one assist, sophomore Danny Larkin (Holladay, UT/Olympus) had one goal and one assist and freshman Matthew Kruszewski (Atco, NJ/Winslow Township) had one goal to round the goal scorers.  Junior Sam Gobeli (Baltimore, MD/Archbishop Curley) totaled two assists and seven ground balls while winning 11-of-22 face-offs and junior Shane Corley (Philadelphia, PA/Father Judge) had one assist in the loss.

         Senior Ben Conroy (Easton, PA/Moravian Academy) played well in his last collegiate game making 15 saves in between the pipes.  Fellow seniors Jon-Erik Stamatelos (Cherry Hill, NJ/Cherry Hill West) and Bryan Hart (Wilmington, DE/Salesianum) combined for five ground balls.
