Softball Splits DH at Scranton, J. Cybularz tosses Shutout in Game Two

Senior Jennifer Cybularz improved to 3-1 with a complete-game shutout in game two on Saturday.

Scranton, PA (April 28, 2007) – Senior Jennifer Cbyularz (Philadelphia, PA/Archbishop Carroll) tossed a five-hit complete game shutout in game two to lead the DeSales University softball team a split of its Freedom Conference doubleheader on Saturday afternoon.

The split moves DSU to 13-16 overall and finishes its Freedom Conference season with a 6-8 overall record, while Scranton moves to 7-19 overall and 4-10 in the Freedom.

In the opener, DSU held a 1-0 lead after two innings as sophomore Kelly Moran (Bethlehem, PA/Bethlehem Catholic) hit a solo home run to give the Bulldogs an early lead.  Scranton tallied an unearned run in the third to tie the score and broke it wide open in the fifth inning when they crossed home plate seven times to open up an 8-1 lead and never looked back.

Senior Elise Wilk (Philadelphia, PA/Nazareth Academy) took the loss allowing 12 hits and three earned runs over six innings.  Moran provided the only run with her fourth home run of the season and fellow sophomore Jamie Pfitzenmayer (Annandale, NJ/Hunterdon Central) was 2-for-3 in the loss.

In the second game, J. Cybularz was sensational allowing just five hits and striking out two without a walk to improve to 3-1 on the year.  Moran again provided most of the offense as she finished the game 3-for-4 with a run scored and five RBI’s.  DSU scored in all five innings to win by the eight-run rule after five frames.

Sophomore Amanda Kensecki (Bethlehem, PA/Liberty) was 1-for-3 with three runs scored, freshman Kerri Andrews (Bethlehem, PA/Bethlehem Catholic) had two hits and Pfitzenmayer continued her hot hitting going 2-for-2 with two runs scored in the win.

The Bulldogs return to action on Sunday, April 29th when they host York College in a non-conference doubleheader beginning at 1:00 pm.
