Kensecki leads DeSales to #1 Seed in Freedom Tournament with 13-4 win over FDU-Florham

Senior Jon Kensecki improved to 4-2 with six shutout innings on Monday afternoon.
 
Madison, NJ (April 30, 2007) – Senior Jon Kensecki (Bethlehem, PA/Liberty) made just his second start of the season and came up big when it mattered pitching six shutout innings to lead the DeSales University baseball team to the #1 seed in the Freedom Conference playoffs with a 13-4 win over FDU-Florham on Monday afternoon.
 
        The Bulldogs improve to 24-12 overall and 13-5 in the Freedom with the win, while the Devils fall to 19-16 overall and 10-8 in the conference standings.  DSU will now be the #1 seed in the Freedom Conference playoffs this weekend at Quakertown Memorial Park with King’s College the #2 seed, FDU-Florham the #3 seed and Wilkes University the #4 seed.
 
        DSU took control of this game early with five runs in the top of the first inning.  Four of the five runs came with two outs as senior Matt Lezinsky (Bethlehem, PA/Liberty), junior Scott Matejicka (Whitehall, PA/Whitehall), sophomore Zac Hess (Harleysville, PA/LaSalle) and sophomore Matt Connors (Sewell, NJ/Washington Township) all drove in runs.
 
        Kensecki set the Devils down in each of the first three innings without allowing a run when the Bulldogs struck again in the top of the fourth.  With two men on-base and one out, junior JT Brotosky (Bethlehem, PA/Liberty) laced a single to right-center field plating two runs and giving DSU a 7-0 lead.
 
        Sophomore Mike Bianca (Ellicott City, MD/Mt. St. Joseph) knocked in two more runs with a double in the fifth and Connors and Bianca each had RBI hits in the sixth to give DSU an 11-0 lead.
 
        Kensecki, the Cambridge Search Player of the Game, scattered four hits over six innings striking out two and walking just one.  He improves to 4-2 on the year with the win.
 
        Connors and Bianca led the offensive attack with Connors going 4-for-5 with three RBI’s and Bianca finishing 3-for-4 with three RBI’s.  Matejicka had three hits and two runs scored, Hess had two hits and scored three runs, sophomore Greg Treat (Concord, NH/Concord) was 2-for-3 with two runs scored, Brotosky had one hit and two RBI’s and freshman Doc Neiman (Center Valley, PA/Southern Lehigh) had one hit and two runs scored.

        The Bulldogs are scheduled to return to action on Tuesday, May 1st when they travel to Muhlenberg College for a non-conference game with the local rival beginning at 4:00 pm.
