Bats stay hot in 16-4 Win over Wilkes on Chilly Afternoon

Senior Matt Lezinsky was 3-for-5 with three runs scored and three RBI's in the win over Wilkes on Thursday afternoon.

Center Valley, PA (April 5, 2007) – The wind chill was in the 20’s in the Lehigh Valley today but the DeSales University baseball team continued to swing some hot bats scoring 16 runs on 17 hits to record its fifth straight win, 16-4, over Wilkes University in a Freedom Conference game.

The Bulldogs are now 11-5 overall and a perfect 5-0 in the Freedom Conference, while the Colonels fall to 10-8 overall and 3-6 in the Freedom.  DSU broke open a close game with eight runs in the bottom of the third inning to take an 11-1 lead and cruised the rest of the way.

Sophomore James Niesuchouski (Chester, VT/St. Dominic) was once again stellar on the mound battling the elements to allow just two runs in 5.2 innings of work to improve to 4-1 on the season.

Senior Matt Lezinsky (Bethlehem, PA/Liberty) was one of several heroes at the plate earning Cambridge Search Player of the Game honors with a 3-for-5 effort including three runs scored and three RBI’s.  Lezinsky’s two-RBI double in the third inning put an exclamation point on the eight-run rally and was one of two doubles on the day for the senior third baseman.

Junior Andrew Heard (Alexandria, VA/Hayfield) continued his torrid pace at the plate going 4-for-6 with two runs scored and two RBI’s, while also stealing two more bases.  Sophomore Doc Neiman (Center Valley, PA/Southern Lehigh) had two hits, two runs scored and two stolen bases and junior JT Brotosky (Bethlehem, PA/Liberty) had two hits and two runs scored in the win.

Sophomore Mike Pennington (Dresher, PA/LaSalle) had one hit, two RBI’s and two runs scored, junior Scott Matejicka (Whitehall, PA/Whitehall) chipped in with two hits and a run scored and sophomore Matt Connors (Sewell, NJ/Washington Township) had one hit, three runs scored, two stolen bases and two RBI's.

The bullpen also did a nice job as freshman Charles Swenson (Ellicott City, MD/Mt. Hebron), junior Mike Concilio (Bethlehem, PA/Liberty) and senior Jon Kensecki (Bethlehem, PA/Liberty) combined to allow just three hits, two unearned runs and strike out five in 3.1 innings of work.

DSU is scheduled to return to action on Saturday, April 7th when they host Stevens Institute of Technology in a non-conference game beginning at Noon.
