Center Valley, PA (April 7, 2007) – The DeSales University baseball team scored four runs in the bottom of the eighth inning breaking a tie at six and earn its sixth straight win, 10-6, over Stevens Institute of Technology in a non-conference game on Saturday afternoon.
In the eighth freshman Doc Neiman (Center Valley, PA/Southern Lehigh) led off the with a single and moved to second on a sacrifice bunt from junior Andrew Heard (Alexandria, VA/Hayfield). After a fielder’s choice forced Neiman out at third, sophomore Mike Bianca (Ellicott City, MD/Mt. St. Joseph) singled home the innings first run and senior Matt Lezinsky (Bethlehem, PA/Liberty) scored on a passed ball to make it 8-6.
With two outs and runners on second and third, sophomore Zachary Hess (Harleysville, PA/LaSalle) singled home sophomore Mike Pennington (Dresher, PA/LaSalle) and Scott Matejicka (Whitehall, PA/Whitehall) to give the Bulldogs a 10-6 lead and eventually the win.
Junior Mike Concilio (Bethlehem, PA/Liberty) earned the win and Cambridge Search Player of the Game honors pitching 2.1 innings of scoreless relief allowing just one hit and striking out one.
Neiman, Connors and sophomore Greg Treat (Concord, NH/Concord) each had two hits to lead the bat attack. Hess finished with two RBI’s and Heard had one hit and scored two runs. The Bulldogs stole nine bases in the win including two by Heard and Connors and three from junior JT Brotosky (Bethlehem, PA/Liberty).
The Bulldogs return to action on Monday, April 9th when they travel to Wilkes University for a Freedom Conference doubleheader beginning at 1:00 pm.
