Allentown, PA, (May 1, 2007) – The DeSales University baseball team committed five errors on Tuesday afternoon leading to four unearned runs as the Bulldogs fell to local rival Muhlenberg College, 7-6, in a non-conference game.
DeSales (24-13 overall) took a 4-3 lead in the fifth inning as sophomore Mike Bianca (Ellicott City, MD/Mt. St. Joseph) tripled home two runs and later scored on an RBI single from freshman Ryan Blacker (Allentown, PA/Emmaus).
The Mules countered with three runs in the sixth to take a 6-4 lead before the Bulldogs tied it at six in the eighth an another two RBI single from Bianca. MC (9-25 overall) broke the tie in the bottom of the eighth when Jason Bonder singled home the eventual game-winner.
Junior Mike Concilio (Bethlehem, PA/Liberty) took the loss pitching one inning of relief allowing one run on two hits and a walk while striking out two to fall to 2-3 on the season. Bianca continued his hot hitting at the plate going 3-for-3 with four RBI’s and two runs scored, while junior Greg Treat (Concord, NH/Concord) contributed with two hits and two runs scored.
The Bulldogs get a few days off as they prepare for the Freedom Conference playoffs which begin on Friday afternoon with a first round game vs. Wilkes University at Quakertown Memorial Park beginning at 4:00 pm.
