McClurkin Breaks Singles Record, Bulldogs Blank Neumann, 9-0

Senior Courtney McClurkin moved into first-place all-time with her 47th career singles win on Thursday.
Aston, PA (August 30, 2007) – Senior Courtney McClurkin (Collegeville, PA/Spring-Ford) moved into first place all-time with 47 careers singles wins as she led the DeSales University women's tennis team to a 9-0 win over Neumann College in a non-conference match on Thursday afternoon.
 
        McClurkin defeated Katie Nell, 6-0, 6-0 to earn her 47th career win in singles competition and the 19th career win at the No. 1 position. She passes Laura LeVan who had 46 career singles wins, 37 of which came at the No. 1 spot.
 
        McClurkin was also a winner in doubles as she teamed with fellow senior Mary Kate McElvaney (Philadelphia, PA/St. Hubert) for an 8-1 win. McElvaney earned a singles win at the No. 2 spot defeating Allison Trout, 6-1, 6-1.
 
        Freshman Kate Steiner (Walnutport, PA/Northampton) was a winner at the No. 3 singles spot, 6-1, 6-0 over Michelle Steward and junior Caitlin Gerlach (Oak Ridge, NJ/West Milford) earned a win at the No. 4 spot, 6-0, 6-0 over Lindsey Ravior.
 
        At the No. 5 spot freshman Jess Smith (Abbottstown, PA/Delone Catholic) defeated Courtney Hartel, 6-0, 6-0 and freshman MaryKate Boylan (Doylestown, PA/Central Bucks South) rounded out the singles winners with a 6-4, 6-3 win over Kayla Chambers at the No. 6 spot.
 
        In doubles Steiner and Boylan teamed at the No. 2 spot to win 8-1 and sophomore Nickie Brackbill (Paradise, PA/Pequea Valley) teamed with Gerlach to win 8-4 at the No. 3 doubles position.
 
        The Bulldogs (2-0 overall) return to action on Thursday, September 6th when they host Immaculata University in a non-conference match beginning at 3:00 pm.
