Carlisle, PA (September 1, 2007) – The DeSales University men's soccer team opened the 2007 campaign with a 2-1 loss to Dickinson College at the Red Devil Classic on Saturday afternoon.
After tying the game with a goal at the 70:21 mark of the second half by freshman Daniel Maia (Millburn, NJ/Millburn) on an assist from sophomore Dustin Sturm (North Cape May, NJ/Lower Cape May) the Bulldogs allowed the eventual game-winner with 2:03 left in regulation as Matt Edgar scored off a corner kick feed from Paul Coyle.
A scoreless tie at halftime was broken at the 64:36 mark as John Freed scored off a pass from Thomas Parkinson mid-way thru the second half. Dickinson out-shot DeSales, 19-15, as Rodrigo Barboza had eight saves and senior Rusty Riedmiller made four stops for the Bulldogs.
DSU returns to action on Sunday when they face Franklin & Marshall College in the second game of the Red Devil classic beginning at Noon.
