Kerri Andrews

Volleyball Wins Second Straight, 3-0, over local rival Muhlenberg

Sophomore Kerri Andrews continued her tremendous play totaling 30 digs in the win over Muhlenberg on Tuesday evening.
Center Valley, PA (September 11, 2007) – The DeSales University volleyball team earned its second straight win on Tuesday evening in the 2007 home opener as the Bulldogs topped one of its local rivals, Muhlenberg College, 3-0 (30-27, 30-23, 30-22), in front a big crowd in Billera Hall.

After Muhlenberg (5-5 overall) took a quick lead early in the first game, DeSales took control and led 26-21 in the match opener. The Mules quickly scored five straight points to tie the score but the Bulldogs (4-3 overall) took four of the next five points to earn the win. The second game was all DeSales as they took an early lead and held on for a seven-point win, while the third game featured another small come back for the Bulldogs after falling behind early but they recovered for their second straight victory.

Several players had season-best performances including sophomore Jen Mellon (Media, PA/Penncrest) who tallied a team-high 17 kills with just three errors. Freshman Kylie Fehnel (Nazareth, PA/Bethlehem Catholic) added 11 kills and 10 digs and junior Joann Rivera (Bethlehem, PA/Freedom) totaled nine kills.

Sophomore Kerri Andrews (Bethlehem, PA/Bethlehem Catholic) had another outstanding game totaling 30 digs and junior Sharon Uliana (Fleetwood, PA/Reading Central Catholic) finished with 34 assists and 13 digs. Freshman Alyssa Poplaski (Mechanicsburg, PA/Mechanicsburg) and senior Allie Boyer (Douglassville, PA/Daniel Boone) also contributed double-digit digs with 13 and 10 respectively, while Polaski added four blocks in the win.

Before the game the team announced that it was honoring the attacks on our nation six years ago today and would be taking donations between games two and three for the Colleen Supinski Foundation. The foundation was set-up following the Sept. 11th attacks after Colleen, a resident of nearby Nazareth, PA, was one of the thousands who fell victim to the attacks at the World Trade Center. It was estimated after the match that DeSales collected just over $350.00 and wanted to thank everyone who donated for both attending the match on Tuesday and for donating to such a worthy cause.

DeSales wastes no time returning to action as they host King's College in an early season Freedom Conference match-up on Wednesday evening beginning at 7:00 pm.
