Center Valley, PA (September 15, 2007) – The DeSales University women's tennis team opened the 2007 Freedom Conference season on a positive note as they defeated King's College, 7-2, in the conference opener for both teams on Saturday afternoon.
Senior Courtney McClurkin (Collegeville, PA/Spring-Ford), senior Liz Guidon (Northampton, PA/Bethlehem Catholic), freshman Kate Steiner (Walnutport, PA/Northampton) and freshman Jess Smith (Abbottstown, PA/Delone Catholic) were all double winners on the day to lead the Bulldogs.
McClurkin and Steiner teamed to win at the No. 1 doubles position, 8-4, while Guidon and Smith teamed to win a hard-fought match at the No. 2 spot, 9-8 (7-2), giving DSU a 2-1 edge after the doubles play.
McClurkin, Guidon, Steiner and Smith all took care of business in the first four singles matches with all three winning in straight sets and sophomore Nickie Brackbill (Paradise, PA/Pequea Valley) earned the final DSU point with a 6-4, 6-3 win at the No. 6 singles spot.
DSU returns to action on Thursday, September 20th when they travel to Wilkes University for a Freedom Conference match beginning at 3:30 pm.
