BOX SCORE

Reading, PA (September 19, 2007) – Freshmen Kelsey Strowhouer (Wilmington, DE/Brandywine) and Jamie Matthews (Gilbertsville, PA/Boyertown) combined to score all five DeSales University goals to lead the field hockey team to a 5-0 win over Albright College in a non-conference game on Wednesday evening.

All five goals came in the second half after both teams were blanked in the first half. Albright (5-3 overall) did out-shot DeSales (3-4 overall), 23-19, in the game, while each team had six penalty corners. Sophomore Molly Pope (Elkridge, MD/Long Reach) was outstanding in the net making 13 saves to earn her third shutout of the season. All three Bulldog wins this year have been via the shutout.

Strowhouer started the scoring 6:26 into the second half with her first career goal, an unassisted tally to give DSU a 1-0 lead. Matthews got into the scoring act just under five minutes later when she scored her first career marker off an assist from senior Ashley Sparango (Salfordville, PA/Souderton).

Strowhouer made it a 3-0 game at the 49:58 mark with another unassisted tally, Matthews scored her second of the game at the 57:42 mark and Strowhouer recorded her hat trick at the 62:16 mark off another assist from Sparango to finalize the scoring.

The Bulldogs will return to action on Saturday, September 22nd when they host Widener University in a non-conference game and the first home game of the season for the Bulldogs at 1:00 pm.
