Womens Tennis drops tight match at Wilkes, 5-4

Senior Courtney McClurkin continued her undefeated season with wins in both singles and doubles on Thursday afternoon.

Wilkes-Barre, PA (September 20, 2007) – The top two teams in the Freedom Conference pre-season poll squared off on Thursday afternoon and Wilkes University earned a win in the only regular season meeting topping the DeSales University women's tennis team, 5-4.
 
        Senior Courtney McClurkin (Collegeville, PA/Spring-Ford) continued her undefeated season winning at both the No. 1 singles spot, 2-6, 6-2, 6-0 over Alison McDonald and teaming with freshman Kate Steiner (Walnutport, PA/Northampton) at the No. 1 doubles spot to defeat McDonald and Xiaoqiao Zhang, 8-6.
 
        Steiner also earned a singles win at the No. 3 spot with a 6-3, 7-6 (7-2) over Kristin Wilt, while fellow freshman Jess Smith (Abbottstown, PA/Delone Catholic) earned a singles win at the No. 4 spot, 6-4, 6-1 over Victoria Bybel.
 
        The loss drops the Bulldogs to 4-2 overall and 1-1 in the Freedom Conference. DSU will return to action this weekend when they compete at the ITA Southeast Regional Championship Tournament at Mary Washington College.
