Womens Tennis tops Manhattanville, 8-1, in First-Ever Meeting

Sophomore Nickie Brackbill earned two wins in the 8-1 win over Manhattanville on Wednesday.

Center Valley, PA (September 26, 2007) – The DeSales University women's tennis team welcomed Manhattanville College to campus for the first-ever time as a member of the Freedom Conference and defeated the Valiants, 8-1, to move to 2-1 in the Freedom Conference standings.
 
        Five different Bulldogs earned two wins on the day including senior Courtney McClurkin (Collegeville, PA/Spring-Ford) who earned a 6-1, 7-5 win over Blake Lesser at the No. 1 spot. Senior Liz Guidon (Northampton, PA/Bethlehem Catholic) earned a win at the No. 2 spot, 7-6 (8-6), 6-2 over Paisley Coats and freshman Kate Steiner (Walnutport, PA/Northampton) continued her excellent play with a 6-1, 6-1 win at the No. 3 spot over Ariane Lewis.
 
        Freshman Jess Smith (Abbottstown, PA/Delone Catholic) continued her undefeated season with a 6-1, 6-0 win at the No. 4 spot over Danielle Waldron and sophomore Nickie Brackbill (Paradise, PA/Pequea Valley) earned a win at the No. 6 spot, 6-2, 6-0.
 
        In doubles action, McClurkin and Steiner teamed to win 8-3 at the No. 1 spot, Guidon and Smith teamed to win 8-2 at the No. 2 spot and Brackbill teamed with freshman MaryKate Boylan (Doylestown, PA/Central Bucks South) to win 8-1.

         The Bulldogs return to action on Saturday, September 29th when they travel to Johns Hopkins University for a non-conference match beginning at 11:00 am.
