Center Valley, PA (September 29, 2007) – The DeSales University volleyball team ran its winning streak to seven straight with a 3-0 win over Cedar Crest College (30-7, 30-24, 30-23) and a 3-0 win over Rutgers-Camden (30-9, 30-10, 30-5), on Homecoming Saturday in Billera Hall.
The Bulldogs improve to 12-4 overall with the two wins and match the longest winning streak since the 1997 season when the Bulldogs won 10-straight. In the first match junior Joann Rivera (Bethlehem, PA/Freedom) continued her hot hitting with a team-high 18 kills and just two errors for a .485 hitting percentage. Sophomore Jen Mellon (Media, PA/Penncrest) added 11 kills (.375 hitting percentage) in the win.
Also in the first match, junior Sharon Uliana (Fleetwood, PA/Reading Central Catholic) had an outstanding match totaling 35 assists and 27 digs. Sophomore Kerri Andrews (Bethlehem, PA/Bethlehem Catholic) tallied 20 digs, junior Ashley Grube (Orwigsburg, PA/Blue Mountain) had six kills and two blocks and freshman Kylie Fehnel (Nazareth, PA/Bethlehem Catholic) finished with a team-high three blocks.
In the second match, the Bulldogs recorded 19 service aces as a team to sweep the Scarlet Raptors. Rivera led the way once again with 13 kills and had just one error in 15 attempts to set a new record for hitting percentage in the 15-19 attempts category of .800. The previous record held by Sally Whittaker and Helene Quaintance was set at .667.
Mellon her first match totals with 11 kills, Andrews totaled 10 digs and six service aces and senior Allie Boyer (Douglassville, PA/Daniel Boone) continued her tremendous serving with eight aces in the win.
DSU returns to Freedom Conference play on Tuesday evening when they travel to Wilkes University for a match beginning at 7:00 pm.
