Mens Soccer Records Third Straight Shutout, Tops Widener, 3-0

Junior Daniel Jones dished out three assists in the win over Widener on Saturday.

Center Valley, PA (September 29, 2007) – The DeSales University men's soccer team recorded its third straight shutout and is now unbeaten in four straight games as they topped Widener University, 3-0, in a non-conference game on Saturday afternoon in front of a capacity crowd on Homecoming afternoon at DeSales.
 
        The Bulldogs defense led by sophomore Tony Aufiero (Wall, NJ/Wall), junior Tim Hall (Montclair, VA/Bishop Ireton), junior Andrew Marshall (Greene, NY/Greene Central) and senior Chris Ravita (Lebanon, NJ/North Hunterdon), have not allowed a goal in the last 352:09 and improve their season record to 3-7-1 overall with the win. Senior Rusty Riedmiller (Stroudsburg, PA/Stroudsburg) took over first place all-time at DeSales with 235 career saves and recorded his third shutout of the season and the 18th of his career on the afternoon.
 
        On the offensive end, junior Daniel Jones (Ronks, PA/Pequea Valley) dished out three assists and junior German Reyes (Beach Lake, PA/Honesdale) scored two goals to lead the attack. Reyes put the Bulldogs on the board at the 38:58 mark of the first half when he took a pass from Jones, slide-stepped the charging Pride goalkeeper and deposited the ball into a wide open net to five the hosts a 1-0 lead.
 
        About 13 minutes into the second half Reyes struck again on a beautiful goal. Freshman Nicholas Lanza (Doylestown, PA/LaSalle) found Jones in the left corner, Jones took one-touch and fed a centering pass into the box where Reyes leaped high in the air and headed home his second marker of the game. The Bulldogs added a third tally at the 66:26 mark when Jones found sophomore Dustin Sturm (North Cape May, NJ/Lower Cape May) who scored his third goal of the season to provide the final margin.
 
        DSU out-shot Widener 22-12 and held a 6-2 advantage on corner kicks. Marty Squicciarini made five saves in the loss for the Pride who fall to 5-5 overall on the season.

         DSU returns to action on Wednesday evening when they travel to Muhlenberg College for a non-conference game beginning at 7:00 pm.
