Bethlehem, PA (September 5, 2007) – The DeSales University field hockey team used a second-half comeback to take a late lead before a late goal by Moravian forced overtime and the Greyhounds scored early in the extra period to record a 3-2 non-conference win between two local rivals.
Trailing 1-0 at the half, senior Ashley Sparango (Salfordville, PA/Souderton) scored her third goal of the season, an unassisted tally 3:49 into the second half to tie the score at one. Sophomore Meghan Iudicello (Nazareth, PA/Pen Argyl) found the back of the cage about 15 minutes later when she took a pass from Sparango, scoring her first goal of the season giving DSU a 2-1 edge.
The Bulldog lead stood till the five minute mark when Moravian mounted a charge and Savannah Bayer scored her first goal of the season on an assist by Erica Spatz to tie the game with 4:19 remaining. The two teams went scoreless over the remainder of the half to force overtime.
In the overtime period the Greyhounds took control, marching down the field immediately as Kayla Carson took another feed from Spatz and scored her third marker of the year to give MC the 3-2 win just 1:27 into the extra period.
Moravian held a 24-12 edge in shots and had a 5-2 advantage on penalty corners in the game. Sophomore Molly Pope (Elkridge, MD/Long Reach) did make 13 saves in between the pipes for the Bulldogs.
DeSales will look to return to the winner's circle on Saturday, September 8th when they travel to Alvernia College for another non-conference game beginning at 1:00 pm
