Pomona, NJ (January 14, 2008) – The DeSales University women's basketball team held Richard Stockton College to 35.3 percent shooting and just 47 points for the game en route to a 69-47 non-conference win over the Ospreys on Monday evening.
The Bulldogs improve to 12-3 overall with the win, while the loss drops Stockton to 7-5 on the season. DSU enjoyed a 45-34 advantage on the glass and forced 22 Osprey turnovers as compared to just 13 miscues of its own.
DeSales pushed a six-point lead to 14 points near the end of the opening half with a quick 10-2 run before RSC hit two free throws to post the 35-23 halftime score. Sophomore Kaila Wiand (Royersford, PA/Spring-Ford) and junior Kim Rarick (Ringtown, PA/North Schuylkill) started the run with baskets before junior LeighAnn Burke (Philadelphia, PA/Archbishop Ryan) scored six straight points to put DSU up 35-21.
In the second half the Bulldogs used an 11-2 run midway thru the second half to take its largest lead of the game, 26 points, at the 7:30 mark and cruised the rest of the way.
Burke and Rarick led the scoring attack with 14 points each, while Burke added five steals and Rarick had four assists. Senior Jenna Stampf (Nazareth, PA/Notre Dame) also reached double digits with 11 points and grabbed seven rebounds off the bench.
Senior Amanda Kuperavage (Port Carbon, PA/Nativity BVM) had six points, nine rebounds, and four assists, sophomore Caitlin Miller (Fogelsville, PA/Northwestern Lehigh) totaled six points and a team-high nine rebounds and junior Erica Sovak (Tuxedo, NY/George F. Baker) finished with six points and five rebounds off the bench.
Alyssa Reiter led the Ospreys registering a double-double with 12 points and 11 rebounds and Kelley Guarrera also had double digits with 10 points.
The Bulldogs return to action on Wednesday, January 16th when they travel to Wilkes University for a Freedom Conference game beginning at 6:00 pm.
