Center Valley, PA (October 1, 2008) – The DeSales University men's soccer team missed several scoring opportunities and Arcadia took advantage of a late chance, scoring on a penalty kick with 1:47 left on the clock to record a 1-0 win in a non-conference game.

The Bulldogs (5-6 overall) dominated the flow of the game, controlling the ball for all 90 minutes as they held a 24-7 edge in shots and an 11-3 advantage in corner kicks, but the Scarlet Knights (5-6 overall) got the better end on the scoreboard as Joe Clementi scored on a penalty kick with 1:47 to go after the Bulldogs were whistled for a hand ball in the box.

DSU had several point blank chances to score, all of which were turned aside. In addition to the 10 saves made AU's goalkeeper, Jeff Kratohwill, the Scarlet Knight defense came up with two saves on the goal line to preserve the shutout.

The Bulldogs first chance came in the first half when senior German Reyes (Beach Lake, PA/Honesdale) saw his penalty kick attempt saved by Kratohwill. The missed PK marks the third time in five penalty kicks this season DeSales has been stopped.

In the second half, DSU had a goal taken away with 15 minutes left when a header from freshman Derek Long (Wernersville, PA/Conrad Weiser) found the back of the net, but he was called off sides and the goal was not allowed. Just four minutes later the Bulldogs had seemed to be the first on the scoreboard when a shot from Reyes on the right side of the box got past the AU keeper but a defender blasted the ball out before it crossed the goal line and the Bulldogs were turned aside again.

Junior Keith Barry (Long Valley, NJ/West Morris Central) continued his solid play in between the pipes making three saves in the loss.

The Bulldogs will look to re-group next week when they return to action a week from today as they host local rival Muhlenberg College in another non-conference game beginning at 3:30 pm.
