Bulldogs Clinch Freedom Playoff Spot with 3-0 Win over Aggies

Doylestown, PA (October 21, 2008) – The DeSales University volleyball team clinched a spot in the Freedom Conference playoffs on Tuesday evening with a 3-0 (25-13, 25-11, 25-20) win over Delaware Valley College in a Freedom Conference match.

DSU showed no rust in its first match in 10 days and improved to 17-10 overall and 5-1 in the Freedom Conference, while the Aggies drop to 12-11 overall and 0-6 in the Freedom. The playoff berth marks the sixth time and the third time in the last four years the Bulldogs have qualified for the postseason since joining in the Freedom in 1997. DeSales won the Freedom Conference title last year for the first time in school history.

Leading the way on Tuesday was senior Ashley Grube (Orwigsburg, PA/Blue Mountain) with a match-high eight kills and four blocks. Sophomore Kylie Fehnel (Nazareth, PA/Bethlehem Catholic) totaled seven kills and freshman Lauren Hickey (Ridley Park, PA/Ridley) also had seven kills.

Junior Kerri Andrews (Bethlehem, PA/Bethlehem Catholic) finished with 16 digs, senior Sharon Uliana (Fleetwood, PA/Reading Central Catholic) had 27 assists and 15 digs, and freshman Katie Dziuma (Bronx. NY/Preston) totaled four aces and eight digs.

DSU will return to action on Thursday evening when they host Freedom Conference leader Eastern University at 7:00 pm.
