Field Hockey Concludes Season with 5-2 Loss at King’s

Wilkes-Barre, PA (October 31, 2008) – The DeSales University field hockey team saw its 2008 season come to a close with a 5-2 loss at King's College on Friday afternoon in a Freedom Conference game on a beautiful, fall afternoon.

The Lady Monarchs (14-3, 5-2 Freedom) opened up a 4-0 advantage in the first half with all four of their goals coming in a span of 13 minutes with the first coming 19:18 into the game and the fourth coming at the 32:21 mark.

DSU cut the margin in half with six minutes remaining but were never able to get any closer. Junior Catherine McGrillen (Ballymena, Northern Ireland) scored the first for the Bullodgs, her ninth of the year unassisted on a chip shot over the goalie's head. Sophomore Jamie Matthews (Gilbertsville, PA/Boyertown) cut the lead in half with her 11th tally of the year off an assist from freshman Keri Falcicchio (Ocean Township, NJ/Ocean Township).

King's out-shot DeSales, 15-9, and held a 13-6 advantage on corner kicks. Senior Marian Karnas (Burlington, NJ/Burlington Township) made seven saves in between the pipes.

The Bulldogs finish the season with a 7-12 overall record and a 1-7 mark in the Freedom Conference.
