Bulldogs Sweep Arcadia, Kean at Pita Pit Tournament

Center Valley, PA (October 4, 2008) – The DeSales University volleyball team swept both matches on Saturday afternoon at the Pita Pit Classic Tournament defeating Arcadia University and Kean University to finish in second place.

The Bulldogs swept each match winning 3-0 (25-13, 25-16, 25-14) over Arcadia and 3-0 (25-10, 25-8, 25-21) over Kean. DSU is now 14-9 overall on the season. Senior Joann Rivera (Bethlehem, PA/Freedom) was named to the All-Tournament Team and junior Kerri Andrews (Bethlehem, PA/Bethlehem Catholic) made history on Friday evening as she became the school's all-time leader in digs. Andrews had 41 digs over the weekend and now has 1,350 digs in her career moving her into first place all-time.

In the win over Arcadia, senior Ashley Grube (Orwigsburg, PA/Blue Mountain) and freshman Lauren Hickey (Ridley Park, PA/Ridley) each tallied a team-high 10 kills. Rivera and sophomore Kylie Fehnel (Nazareth, PA/Bethlehem Catholic) added eight kills each, while Fehnel, freshman Katie Dziuma (Bronx, NY/Preston), Andrews and senior Sharon Uliana (Fleetwood, PA/Reading Central Catholic) all had a team-high eight digs.

In the win over Kean, Fehnel was virtually unstoppable as she finished with 17 kills and no errors on 22 attempts to record a .773 hitting percentage. Hickey also had double-digit kills with 10. Freshman Cait Trovato (Bethlehem, PA/Notre Dame) had a solid defensive game with a team-high 17 digs, Andrews added 14 digs and Uliana had 39 assists in the win.

The All-Tournament team also included senior Lindsay Martin (MVP) of Cabrini College, freshman Alexis Doss of Cabrini College, freshman Yesenia Velasquez of Kean University and sophomore Victoria Gill of Arcadia University.

DSU will return to action on Tuesday, October 7th when they host Manhattanville College in a Freedom Conference match beginning at 7:00 pm.
