McGrillen Scores Twice; Bulldogs Top Arcadia, 3-0

Junior Catherine McGrillen scored twice in the win over Arcadia on Tuesday.

Glenside, PA (October 7, 2008) – Junior Catherine McGrillen (Ballymena, Northern Ireland) scored two goals leading the DeSales University field hockey team past Arcadia University, 3-0, in a non-conference game on Tuesday afternoon.

The Bulldogs improve to 5-7 overall with the win, while the Scarlet Knights fall to 4-8 overall. DSU out-shot Arcadia 24-12 and held a 14-10 edge in penalty corners in the win.

McGrillen scored the first two goals of the game with the first coming off an assist from sophomore Jamie Matthews (Gilbertsville, PA/Boyertown) at the 2:49 mark and the second coming off a feed from sophomore Melissa Gilroy (Shohola, PA/Delaware Valley).

The lead grew to three goals 12 minutes into the second half when Matthews scored off a feed from fellow sophomore Kelsey Strowhouer (Wilmington, DE/Brandywine) to post the final margin.

Sophomore Jen Bessinger (Langhorne, PA/Archbishop Wood) made 10 saves to record her second shutout of the season and sophomore Laura Gibbs (Pitman, NJ/Pitman) had one defensive save in the win.

The Bulldogs return to action on Thursday when they travel to Immaculata University for a non-conference game beginning at 4:00 pm.
