Center Valley, PA (October 8, 2008) – The DeSales University men's soccer team suffered its second straight defeat falling to local rival Muhlenberg College, 3-1, in a non-conference game on Wednesday afternoon.

The loss drops the Bulldogs to 5-7 overall, while the Mules improve to 7-3-1 overall, snapping a two-game winless streak entering the game. MC out-shot DSU, 24-10, in the game and also held a 5-1 edge in corner kicks.

Muhlenberg wasted no time taking the lead as senior Steven Tenenzapf pushed home a slow rolling shot from sophomore Tom Reilly just 1:36 into the game giving the visitor's a 1-0 lead. The Mules widened their lead to two in the 32nd minute when senior Billy Dalton scored his third goal of the year on a bullet shot from about 25-yards out off a feed from fellow senior Greg Leischner.

In the second half, DeSales cut into the two-goal deficit when senior German Reyes (Beach Lake, PA/Honesdale) found freshman Derek Long (Wernersville, PA/Conrad Weiser) open in the box as Long slid a shot inside the right post and past the Mule keeper for his ninth tally of the year.

Muhlenberg responded just over six minutes later when they regained its two-goal advantage when freshman Cody Antonini sent a corner kick to the back post where Leischner was there to head home the crossing pass into the net for his first marker of the year.

Junior Kevin Lawrence (Norristown, PA/Kennedy-Kenrick) made seven saves for the Bulldogs in the loss, while senior Joseph Gogel stopped five shots for the Mules.

The Bulldogs return to action on Saturday, October 11th when they travel to Alvernia College for a Freedom Conference game beginning at 3:30 pm.
