Field Hockey Wins Second Straight, 5-2 over Immaculata

Immaculata, PA (October 9, 2008) – The DeSales University field hockey team scored the first five goals on Thursday afternoon en route to its second straight win, a 5-2 decision over Immaculata University in a non-conference game.

The Bulldogs improve to 6-7 overall with the win, while the Mighty Macs fall to 3-7 overall. DSU enjoyed a 21-5 advantage in shots and had an 11-7 lead in penalty corners.

Sophomore Kelsey Strowhouer (Wilmington, DE/Brandywine) started the scoring with an unassisted goal 6:22 into the game, while fellow sophomore Jamie Matthews (Gilbertsville, PA/Boyertown) added to the lead with a marker off an assist from junior Catherine McGrillen(Ballymena, Northern Ireland) just five minutes later.

McGrillen got into the scoring act at the 18:27 mark when she scored on an assist from Matthews, freshman Keri Falcicchio (Ocean Township, NJ/Oecan Township) made it 4-0 at the 26:12 mark off a feed from Strowhouer and McGrillen finished the scoring for the Bulldogs with an unassisted goal with just 2:44 left in the opening half.

IU added two goals in the second half to cut the final margin down to three goals.  Sophomore Jen Bessinger (Langhorne, PA/Archbishop Wood) made two saves in the win.

The Bulldogs return to action on Saturday, October 11th when they travel to Delaware Valley College for a Freedom Conference game beginning at Noon.
