Bulldogs Finish Regular Season with Split at Home Tri-Match

Center Valley, PA (November 1, 2008) – The DeSales University volleyball team finished its regular season schedule splitting a home tri-match with a 3-0 (27-25, 25-19, 25-16) win over Neumann College before a 3-2 (19-25, 21-25, 25-19, 25-20, 15-10) loss to Richard Stockton College in Billera Hall on Saturday afternoon.

The Bulldogs collected money for Breast Cancer and wore pink jerseys in support of Breast Cancer all throughout the day. The split moves DSU to 19-12 overall as they move onto the post-season which will begin on Wednesday with the start of the Freedom Conference playoffs.

In the win over Neumann (16-16 overall), senior Joann Rivera (Bethlehem, PA/Freedom) led the way with 12 kills and just two errors for a .435 hitting percentage. Sophomore Kylie Fehnel (Nazareth, PA/Bethlehem Catholic) tallied nine kills and totaled six blocks and junior Kerri Andrews (Bethlehem, PA/Bethlehem Catholic) finished with a team-high 14 digs in the win.

Senior Sharon Uliana (Fleetwood, PA/Reading Central Catholic) finished with 32 assists, while freshmen Lauren Hickey (Ridley Park, PA/Ridley) had eight kills and two blocks and Katie Dziuma (Bronx, NY/Preston) totaled five service aces.

In the five-set loss to Richard Stockton, Rivera again led the way with 22 kills and just four errors for a .439 hitting percentage. Junior Jen Mellon (Media, PA/Penncrest) and senior Ashley Grube (Orwigsburg, PA/Blue Mountain) each added 12 kills with Grube also collecting a team-high six blocks. Fehnel finished with 10 kills and eight digs and Hickey had eight kills.

Uliana finished just two assists shy of tying the mark in a five-set match with 62 helpers and added 13 digs, while Andrews again led the way with 28 digs. Sophomore Alyssa Poplaski (Mechanicsburg, PA/Mechanicsburg) finished with 11 digs in the loss.

DSU begins the defense of its Freedom Conference championship last season when they travel to FDU-Florham for the first round of the Freedom Conference playoffs on Wednesday beginning at 7:00 pm.
