Dallas, PA (December 6, 2008) – Known for its home prowess over the past few years, the DeSales University men's basketball team has looked mighty impressive on the road thus far winning its fifth straight road game this season, and its sixth overall with a 65-56 win over Misericordia Universty on Saturday afternoon in the Anderson Center.

The win moves DeSales to 6-0 overall, 2-0 in the Freedom, while the Cougars fall to 5-3 overall, 0-1 in the Freedom. The Bulldogs shot 46.3 percent from the field and committed just 11 turnovers in the game to earn the win. Misericordia shot just 38.3 percent and had 16 miscues in the loss.

An early 14-4 run helped DSU build a 10-point lead (20-10) at the 9:58 mark of the first half as freshman Bob Zanneo (Philadelphia, PA/Father Judge) caught fire with eight straight points during the run including two triples.

Continuing to lead by 10 (31-21), DeSales found itself in some foul trouble as three starters were forced to the bench with two personal fouls and Misericordia was able to chip away at the lead. A late steal and Cougar foul sent senior Ed Lapinski (Red Hill, PA/Upper Perkiomen) to the line where he deposited two charity tosses to stake the Bulldogs to a 35-30 halftime lead.

Leading by just two points at the start of the second half, DeSales used a 10-1 run to take an 11-point lead with junior Rob Schubach (Center Valley, PA/Southern Lehigh) starting the surge with an offensive rebound put-back and fellow junior Darnell Braswell (Allentown, PA/William Allen) adding six points during the run. Two treys from Vinny Baumunk cut the lead down to five points at the 10:56 mark as the two teams traded baskets over the next several minutes.

Leading by five, Braswell and Lapinski hit back-to-back lay-ups on consecutive possessions as the lead grew to nine points at the 5:07 mark. Running its half-court offense to near perfection, the Bulldogs methodically used clock on every possession as the Cougars never got any closer than eight points the rest of the way.

Braswell finished with a game-high 18 points, while Lapinski totaled 10 points and a team-high nine boards. Junior Jim Malatesta (Warminster, PA/Archbishop Wood) led the charge off the bench with 10 points and sophomore Brian Hunter (Allentown, PA/Emmaus) finished with five points and a game-high seven assists.

Misericordia had four players in double digits including Baumunk with 10 points and 13 boards. Marcus Little totaled 14 points, Ethan Eichhorst tallied 12 points and Robbie Johnson rounded out the double digit scorers with 11 points.

The Bulldogs return to action on Wednesday, December 10th when they again take to the road traveling to Centenary College for a non-conference game beginning at 7:00 pm.
