Bulldogs drop Season Opener, 8-7, at Moravian

Bethlehem, PA, (February 27, 2008) – The DeSales University men's lacrosse team suffered an 8-7 loss to local rival Moravian College in the 2008 season opener on a cold afternoon.

DeSales (0-1 overall) had control of this game early taking a 5-3 lead after one quarter and led 6-4 at the break before the Bulldogs were only able to score one goal in the second half as the Greyhounds (1-1 overall) rallied for two goals in both the third and fourth quarters to score the come from behind win.

Sophomore Matthew Kruszewski (Atco, NJ/Winslow Township) led the way with three goals, while senior Jay Young (Pittstown, NJ/North Hunterdon) and freshman Whit Bruemmer (Richboro, PA/Council Rock South) each scored twice. Junior Matthew Brancaccio (Greenvale, NY/North Shore) had two assists and freshman Donald Clemens (Baldwin, NY/Baldwin) also played well in his first collegiate game with one helper and six ground balls.

Senior Shane Corley (Philadelphia, PA/Father Judge) won 13-of-15 face-offs in the loss and picked up a team-best seven ground balls, while sophomore Jarryd Stamatelos (Cherry Hill, NJ/Cherry Hill West) made 10 saves in between the pipes.

The Bulldogs will return to action on Saturday, March 1st when they travel to Kean University for another non-conference game beginning at 1:00 pm.
