Mens Tennis Starts Season with Win over Keystone, Loss to Muhlenberg

Junior Jake Hoover earned wins at No. 1 singles and No. 1 doubles in the win over Keystone.

Center Valley, PA (March 12, 2008) – The DeSales University men's tennis team kicked off its 2008 season with a win over Keystone College (7-2) on Wednesday and a loss to local rival Muhlenberg College (9-0) on Saturday in non-conference action.
 
        On Wednesday, the Bulldogs started the season with a 7-2 win over Keystone taking two of three doubles matches and five of six singles matches.
 
        In doubles play junior Jake Hoover (Morrisville, PA/Notre Dame) teamed with sophomore Dan Bullen (Matawan, NJ/St. John Vianney) to win at the No. 1 spot, 8-4 and freshman Joe Sulpizio (Bath, PA/Notre Dame) teamed with fellow freshman Anthony Guerriero (Warren, NJ/Watchung Hills) at the No. 2 spot to win, 8-2.
 
        In singles play, Hoover won at the No. 1 spot, 6-1, 6-0, Sulpizio won at the No. 3 spot, 6-3, 4-6, 6-3, Guerriero won at the No. 3 spot, 6-2, 4-6, 6-4, freshman Thomas Grace (Green Brook, NJ/Watchung Hills) won at the No. 5 spot, 7-6 (8-6), 7-6 (8-6) and sophomore Seth Conklin (Valencia, PA/Aquinas Academy) won at the No. 6 spot, 6-2, 6-4.
 
        In the loss to Muhlenberg on Saturday, the Mules took all three doubles and all six singles matches to sweep the match-up. Hoover and Bullen came the closest to earning DSU a point losing, 8-4, at the No. 1 doubles spot.

        The Bulldogs return to action on Tuesday, March 18th when they host its other local rival, Moravian College, at 4:00 pm.
