Baseball Returns Home with Sweep of Neumann College, 13-2 and 6-1

Junior Nick Repas went 4-for-6 with two triples and four runs scored in the doubleheader sweep of Neumann College.

Center Valley, PA (March 15, 2008) – The DeSales University baseball team returned to action and opened the 2008 home season with a non-conference sweep of Neumann College winning game one, 13-2, and game two, 6-1.
 
        In the opener, the Bulldogs opened up a 10-2 lead over the first three innings with five runs in the bottom of the third inning to blow the game open and cruised the rest of the way. Sophomore Charles Swenson (Ellicott City, MD/Mt. Hebron) earned the win allowing six hits and two runs over five innings striking out six without a walk. The Bulldogs pitchers combined to strike out 11 batters and walk none in the win.
 
        Offensively, junior Nick Repas (Abingdon, MD/Bel Air) and senior Andrew Heard (Alexandria, VA/Hayfield) each went 3-for-3 with two RBI's in the win. Repas scored three times and Heard once. Freshman Evan Zechman (Wilmington, DE/St. Mark's) and junior Matt Connors (Sewell, NJ/Washington Township) also chipped in with a 2-for-2 efforts at the plate with two runs scored each.
 
        In the second game of the doubleheader, DSU scored twice in the fifth to break a tie at one and added three more runs in the sixth to provide the final 6-1 margin. Sophomore Luke Freshwater (Mt. Vernon, OH/Mt. Vernon) earned the win with 1.1 innings of scoreless relief including two strikeouts.
 
        In the two-run fifth, Repas had an RBI triple and later scored on an RBI single from Heard. The Bulldogs added three runs in the sixth on a sacrifice fly from junior Greg Treat (Concord, NH/Concord) and a two-RBI double from junior Mike Bianca (Ellicott City, MD/Mt. St. Joseph). Heard and Bianca each finished with two hits and Zechman scored two runs in the game two win.

        The Bulldogs will return to action on Monday, when they host Frostburg State University at 3:00 pm at Butz Field.
