Eight-Run Fifth lifts DeSales to Fifth Straight Win, 15-2 over Misericordia

Senior Scott Matejicka came out of a mini-slump with three hits and two RBI's on Tuesday.

Center Valley, PA (March 18, 2008) – The DeSales University baseball team scored eight runs in the fifth inning breaking open a close game and cruising past Misericordia University, 15-2, on a chilly Tuesday afternoon at Butz Field.
 
        Leading 3-1 entering the bottom of the fifth inning, DSU scored eight times in the inning to open up an 11-1 lead and added four more in the eighth to provide the final margin. In the fifth, junior Mike Bianca (Ellicott City, MD/Mt. St. Joseph) had a two-run single, junior Greg Treat (Concord, NH/Concord) had an RBI double and junior Zac Hess (Harleysville, PA/LaSalle College) and senior Scott Matejicka (Whitehall, PA/Whitehall) each had two-RBI singles for the Bulldogs.
 
        Sophomore Mark Reilly (Cream Ridge, NJ/Notre Dame) was the beneficiary of the runs as he went five strong innings to earn his first win of the season. Reilly allowed five hits, one unearned run, struck out six and walked just one in his five innings of work.
 
        Matejicka (3-for-3) with two RBI's and run scored and Hess (3-for-5) with three RBI's and a run scored led the offensive attack. Freshman Tim Fiorito (Mesa, AZ/Seton Catholic) had two hits and two RBI's and Treat finished with two hits and an RBI in the win.

         DSU returns to action on Saturday, March 22nd when they begin Freedom Conference play with a doubleheader at FDU-Florham beginning at 1:00 pm.
