Volleyball Posts 1-3 Record in Season Opening Tournament at Johns Hopkins

Baltimore, MD (August 30, 2008) – The DeSales University volleyball team opened the 2008 season at the ASICS/Johns Hopkins University Tournament on Friday and Saturday and posted a 1-3 record over the two days.

The Bulldogs dropped both matches on Friday evening falling to Widener University, 3-1 (19-25, 25-17, 25-22, 25-14) and to Geneva College (PA), 3-0 (25-20, 25-20, 25-22). On Saturday, DSU started the day with a 3-0 loss to host Johns Hopkins (25-16, 25-18, 25-21), but rebounded to defeat Goucher College, 3-0 (25-16, 25-19, 25-18).

Junior Jen Mellon (Media, PA/Penncrest) was the lone player named to the All-Tournament team over the weekend as she totaled double digit kills in three of the four matches including 17 in the loss to Widener.

Sophomore Kylie Fehnel (Nazareth, PA/Bethlehem Catholic) had eight kills in three of the four matches and senior Joann Rivera (Bethlehem, PA/Freedom) had 11 kills in the loss to Widener and the win over Goucher.

Junior Kerri Andrews (Bethlehem, PA/Bethlehem Catholic) had double digit digs in three of the four matches including 19 in the loss to Widener and senior Sharon Uliana (Fleetwood, PA/Reading Central Catholic) had 30+ assists in two of the four matches and 20+ in all four matches.

The Bulldogs will return to action on Wednesday, September 3rd when they host local rival Moravian College in a non-conference match beginning at 7:00 pm.
