Volleyball Falls at Muhlenberg, 3-0; Mellon Reaches 900 Kills

Senior Joann Rivera had a team-high 12 kills in the loss at Muhlenberg on Wednesday.

Center Valley, PA, (September 10, 2008) – The DeSales University volleyball team dropped a close three-set match to local rival Muhlenberg College on Wednesday evening in Memorial Hall, 3-0 (26-24, 25-20, 25-23), in a non-conference match.

The loss drops the Bulldogs to 6-5 overall, while the Mules improve to 7-2 overall. Leading the attack for DSU was senior Joann Rivera (Bethlehem, PA/Freedom) with 12 kills and one block in the loss.

Junior Jen Mellon (Media, PA/Penncrest) had seven kills and added three blocks and became just the fifth player in school history to record 900+ kills in a career. Sophomore Kylie Fehnel (Nazareth, PA/Bethlehem Catholic) contributed with 10 kills, nine digs and two blocks and senior Ashley Grube (Orwigsburg, PA/Blue Mountain) had eight kills and four block assists.

Senior Sharon Uliana (Fleetwood, PA/Reading Central Catholic) had 32 assists and nine digs, while junior Kerri Andrews (Bethlehem, PA/Bethlehem Catholic) had 20 digs and sophomore Alyssa Poplaski (Mechanicsburg, PA/Mechanicsburg) totaled 15 digs.

DSU gets some time off as they don't return to action until next Wednesday when they host Wilkes University in a Freedom Conference match beginning at 7:00 pm.
