Late Rally Leads Ramapo to 5-2 Win over DeSales

Center Valley, PA (September 13, 2008) – A tie game mid-way thru the second half was broken open at the 51:38 mark as Ramapo College scored three unanswered goals, defeating the DeSales University field hockey team, 5-2, in a non-conference game on a hot and sticky Saturday afternoon.

Trailing 2-1 entering the second-half, DSU (3-3 overall) tied the game at the 45:00 mark when sophomore Jamie Matthews (Gilbertsville, PA/Boyertown) pushed home her fifth goal of the season off an assist from junior Catherine McGrillen (Ballymena, Northern Ireland).

The game remained tied until the 51:38 mark when the Roadrunners (1-3 overall) scored three straight goals in just under 10 minutes to take a commanding 5-2 lead, recording the win. Sara Weimer and Ashley Zimmerman did most of the damage combing for four goals and one assist for Ramapo.

Junior Alyssa Maltese (Hackettstown, NJ/Hackettstown) also scored a goal for the Bulldogs, an unassisted tally giving the hosts a 1-0 win. DeSales out-shot Ramapo, 19-14 for the game and held a 14-12 edge in penalty corners. Sophomore Jen Bessinger (Langhorne, PA/Archbishop Wood) and senior Marian Karnas (Burlington, NJ/Burlington Township) combined to make three saves for the Bulldogs.

DSU will return to action on Thursday when they travel to Lebanon Valley College for another non-conference game beginning at 4:00 pm.
