Volleyball Sets Home Win Streak Record; Tops Wilkes, 3-0

Center Valley, PA, (September 17, 2008) – The DeSales University volleyball continued its home court domination, winning its 14th straight home game to set a new team mark for consecutive victories at home as the Bulldogs defeated Wilkes University, 3-0 (25-21, 25-14, 25-10), in a Freedom Conference match on Wednesday evening.

The win improves DeSales to 7-5 overall and 2-0 in the Freedom, while the Colonels fall to 4-8 overall and 1-1 in the Freedom. DSU pounded down a 32.4 hitting percentage as compared to just 4.3 percent for Wilkes. The Bulldogs also enjoyed a 71-51 edge in digs and totaled eight service aces in the win.

Leading the Bulldog attack was sophomore Kylie Fehnel (Nazareth, PA/Bethlehem Catholic) with 12 kills and no errors for a .462 hitting percentage. Fehnel also added 12 digs. Senior Joann Rivera (Bethlehem, PA/Bethlehem Catholic) added a team-high 13 kills and had six digs.

Junior #Jen Mellon# (Media, PA/Penncrest) had seven kills and senior Ashley Grube (Orwigsburg, PA/Blue Mountain) also had seven kills and one block. Senior Sharon Uliana (Fleetwood, PA/Reading Central Catholic) added 34 assists and nine digs, junior Kerri Andrews (Bethlehem, PA/Bethlehem Catholic) totaled 17 digs and sophomore Alyssa Poplaski (Mechanicsburg, PA/Mechanicsburg) had a solid game with 12 digs.

DSU returns to action on Friday when they travel to York College to take on the Spartans and Albright College in the first day of the Spartan Best Western Westgate Invitational.
