BOX SCORE

Chester, PA (September 20, 2008) – The DeSales University field hockey team fell just short in its bid to end a three-game slide falling to Widener University, 2-1, in a non-conference game on Saturday afternoon.

Widener (2-5 overall) out-shot DeSales (3-5 overall), 21-12, in the game and held an 11-4 edge in penalty corners. Senior Marian Karnas (Burlington, NJ/Burlington Township) made seven saves in the loss.

The Pride opened up a 1-0 lead in the first half when Shannon Fien scored unassisted and extended its lead to two goals on another unassisted goal at the 52:00 minute mark by Colleen Cormier. DSU pulled within one at the 58:23 mark when sophomore Jamie Matthews (Gilbertsville, PA/Boyertown) scored her sixth goal of the year off an assist from fellow sophomore Kelsey Strowhouer (Wilmington, DE/Brandywine), but that ended the scoring as the Bulldogs fell one goal short.

The Bulldogs will look to end its losing skid on Wednesday, September 24th when they host Albright College in a non-conference game beginning at 4:00 pm.
