Volleyball Posts 2-2 Record at York College Tournament

Senior Ashley Grube had a team-high 14 blocks and hit .298 in the four matches at York over the weekend.

York, PA (September 20, 2008) – The DeSales University volleyball team posted a 2-2 record and took home fourth place at the Spartan Best Western Wingate Invitational held at York College on Friday and Saturday.

The Bulldogs opened the tournament on Friday posting a win over Albright College, 3-0 (25-15, 25-23, 25-12), before losing to tournament host York College (PA), 3-1 (16-25, 26-24, 25-10, 25-22). On Saturday, DSU (9-7 overall) finished pool play with a 3-0 (25-21, 25-21, 25-22) win over Montclair State University, advancing to the third place match where they fell to Lebanon Valley College, 3-0 (25-16, 25-12, 25-16).

Leading the Bulldogs over the weekend was junior Jen Mellon (Media, PA/Penncrest) with a team-high 32 kills. Sophomore Kylie Fehnel (Nazareth, PA/Bethlehem Catholic) added 26 kills and had a .284 hitting percentage and senior Ashley Grube (Orwigsburg, PA/Blue Mountain) had 19 kills and led the team with a .298 hitting percentage.

Freshman Lauren Hickey (Ridley Park, PA/Ridley Park) added 19 kills and eight blocks, while Grube totaled a team-best 14 blocks, an average of 1.09 per game. Senior Sharon Uliana (Fleetwood, PA/Reading Central Catholic) had 100 assists and 38 digs, and junior Kerri Andrews (Bethlehem, PA/Bethlehem Catholic) led the squad with 61 digs.

DSU will return to action on Tuesday evening when they travel to FDU-Florham for a Freedom Conference match beginning at 7:00 pm.
