BOX SCORE

Center Valley, PA, (September 3, 2008) – The DeSales University volleyball team ended a 12-match losing streak to local rival Moravian College on Wednesday night in Billera Hall, blowing past the Greyhounds, 3-0 (25-19, 25-14, 25-15), in a non-conference match.

The last time DSU defeated one of its local rivals, the calendar read October, 1995 and most of the Bulldogs (2-3 overall) were in just elementary school. Over the 12 previous meetings prior to tonight, Moravian (2-3 overall) had won 11 of those matches by a score of 3-0, but tonight was DeSales' night as they took control early and were never really threatened in its first home win of the season. DSU has now won 12-straight games at home dating back to last season when they went a perfect 11-0 in Billera Hall. The home streak is just two wins shy of breaking the all-time record for consecutive wins at home set as part of the 1991 and 1992 seasons.

Leading the attack on Wednesday evening was junior Jen Mellon (Media, PA/Penncrest) totaling a team-high 14 kills. Sophomore Kylie Fehnel (Nazareth, PA/Bethlehem Catholic) added eight kills, nine digs and three blocks and senior Ashley Grube (Orwigsburg, PA/Blue Mountain) was tremendous finishing with seven kills and a team-high five blocks.

Senior Joann Rivera (Bethlehem, PA/Freedom) added seven kills and had five digs, junior Kerri Andrews (Bethlehem, PA/Bethlehem Catholic) registered a team-high 17 digs and senior Sharon Uliana (Fleetwood, PA/Reading Central Catholic) had 36 assists and seven digs in the win.

DSU returns to action on Friday evening when they travel cross-town to the Buttermaker Volleyball Tournament at Muhlenberg College where they will meet York College (Pa.) and Susquehanna University beginning at 4:00 pm.
