BOX SCORE

Allentown, PA (October 1, 2009) – The DeSales University field hockey team won its second straight game, topping one of its local rivals, Cedar Crest College, 3-1, in a non-conference game on another chilly fall afternoon.

The Bulldogs fell behind as the Falcons (2-8 overall) scored first, 6:46 into the game, but DeSales (4-7 overall) needed just 3:54 to tie the score at one as junior Jamie Matthews (Gilbertsville, PA/Boyertown) found the back of the cage for the fifth time this season on a pass from freshman Alyssa Knappenberger (Lehighton, PA/Lehighton), who recorded her fourth helper of the year.

The game remained tied until just before halftime when DSU took a one-goal lead as junior Amy Pulcini (Easton, PA/Easton) scored her third goal of the year off a feed from sophomore Meg Hunter (Plainsboro, NJ/West Windsor Plainsboro North) with just one minute remaining in the half.

DeSales got its insurance goal just 6:45 into the second half when junior Melissa Gilroy (Shohola, PA/Delaware Valley) scored her fourth marker of the year off an assist from Pulcini. DSU out-shot CCC, 31-8, and had an 8-2 lead in penalty corners in the game. Freshman Victoria DelToro (Bethlehem, PA/Liberty) had four saves in between the pipes.

The Bulldogs return to action on Thursday, October 8th when they host Immaculata University in a non-conference game beginning at 4:00 pm.
