St. David's, PA (October 10, 2009) – For the second straight game the DeSales University men's soccer team was unable to hold a one-goal halftime lead, falling for the second straight time, 4-3, in overtime at Eastern University in a Freedom Conference game on Saturday afternoon.

The Bulldogs (8-4, 1-1 Freedom) were on fire in the first half, scoring two goals in the first five minutes and took a 3-1 lead at the 27:51 mark but were unable to hold either advantage as Eastern dominated the scoring in the second half and overtime to pull out a 4-3 win. Eastern improves to 5-7, 1-1 Freedom with the win. Shots were about even, 15-14, for the game, while EU enjoyed a 12-5 advantage on corner kicks.

Freshman Steve Krause (New Tripoli, PA/Northwestern) started the scoring just 1:58 into the game when he netted his fifth of the season off an assist from sophomore Jonathan Balfour (London, England/Conestoga (PA)). Junior Aaron Gildner (Slatington, PA/Parkland) then got into the act just 3:04 later taking a pass in the box from Krause and pushing a shot past the Eastern keeper to make it a 2-0 game. The goal was Gildner's second of the year.

Eastern got within one at the 17:30 mark when Terry Fry scored, but the Bulldogs pushed the lead back to two goals at the 27:51 mark when Balfour scored his ninth of the year off an assist from senior Dustin Sturm (North Cape May, NJ/Lower Cape May).

That however ended DSU's afternoon on the scoring end. EU got within one once again at 35:18 when Kyle Hurst scored his first of two goals. The lead was one into halftime and for much of the second half until Hurst scored his second at the 80:12 mark to tie the game at three.

EU had a 5-2 advantage in shots in the overtime period and eventually scored the game-winner at the 98:17 mark when Ben Faro scored off a rebound after the previous shot ricocheted off the crossbar.

DeSales will look to get back on the winning track when it returns to action on Tuesday, October 13th at King's College in another important Freedom Conference game beginning at 7:00 pm.
