Center Valley, PA (October 17, 2009) – The DeSales University men's soccer team won its second straight Freedom Conference game, outlasting FDU-Florham, 3-1, in a rain soaked game on Saturday afternoon.

The Bulldogs win their 10th game of the year and improve to 10-4 overall and 3-1 in the Freedom, while the Devils fall to 7-7-1 overall and 0-3-1 in the Freedom. DSU enjoyed a 14-12 advantage in shots and a 7-6 advantage in corner kicks. The game was played on a soggy field with rain on and off all day.

DSU struck first when freshman Steve Krause (New Tripoli, PA/Northwestern) scored unassisted at the 14:01 mark, taking control of a loose ball in the box and firing it in the back of the net. The Devils countered, tying the game at one with a marker at the 21:47 mark. Manny Almeida scored unassisted on a goal very similar to Krause' as he took control of a loose ball in the box that was unable to be cleared.

The Bulldogs then took their second one-goal lead of the game just four and a half minutes later when sophomore Derek Long (Wernersville, PA/Conrad Weiser) took a long pass from junior Jon Devine (Philadelphia, PA/North Catholic), beat one defender and snuck a shot inside the left post to make it a 2-1 game.

FDU-Florham had a chance to tie the game just before halftime but John Gaw's penalty shot was hit wide right as DSU preserved the one-goal advantage into the half.

In the second half, DSU got its insurance goal when junior Aaron Gildner (Slatington, PA/Parkland) took advantage of a Devil mistake as the FDU goalie was unable to hold onto a long throw-in as the bill slipped thru his hands and Gildner was there to knock it home.

Senior Kevin Lawrence (Norristown, PA/Kennedy-Kenrick) made his second straight start, making five saves in between the pipes.

The Bulldogs return to action on Wednesday, October 21st when they travel to Manhattanville College for another Freedom Conference game beginning at 3:30 pm.
