Dallas, PA (October 24, 2009) – A free kick from about 50 yards out nine minutes into the second half proved to be the difference as the DeSales University men's soccer team dropped its second straight Freedom Conference game, 2-1, on another rainy Saturday afternoon.

The Bulldogs fall to 10-6 overall and 3-3 in the Freedom Conference, while Misericordia improves to 8-4-3 overall and 3-1-1 in the conference standings. DSU finishes its Freedom Conference schedule on Saturday, October 31st when they host Wilkes University at 2:00 pm in a game that will likely have major playoff implications.

Misericordia struck first just 2:15 into the game when Andy Bush scored off a pass from Nick Ferguson in the lower left corner of the net. The Bulldogs wasted very little time tying the score when sophomore Derek Long (Wernersville, PA/Conrad Weiser) took a cross from junior Aaron Gildner (Slatington, PA/Parkland) and scored his seventh tally of the year just 2:21 after the Cougar goal.

The game remained tied into the half and thru the first nine minutes of the second half before a DSU foul gave Misericordia what was thought to be a harmless free kick from about 50-yards out. Ferguson however had other ideas and hit a rocket towards the goal that beat the Bulldogs keeper into the far corner with what proved to be the game-winner.

Misericordia enjoyed a 13-11 edge in shots and a 4-2 advantage on corner kicks. Senior Kevin Lawrence (Norristown, PA/Kennedy-Kenrick) made five saves for the Bulldogs.

DSU does have one non-conference game on Thursday, October 29th at local rival Moravian College at 3:00 pm before hosting Wilkes in the final Freedom Conference game on Saturday.
