BOX SCORE

Center Valley, PA (October 29, 2009) – On a day when the weather finally turned for the better, a rainbow shined brightly over the field just before game time and the DeSales University field hockey team got its first win of the Freedom Conference season with a 3-0 shutout of Misericordia University on Thursday afternoon.

The Bulldogs improve to 7-11 overall and 1-5 in the Freedom, while the Cougars fall to 6-14 overall and 1-6 in the Freedom. DSU held a 15-6 edge in shots and a 14-6 advantage in penalty corners. Freshman Victoria DelToro (Bethlehem, PA/Liberty) made three saves to record her third shutout of the season in the win.

Junior Jamie Matthews (Gilbertsville, PA/Boyertown) got the scoring started, eight minutes into the game when she scored her seventh goal of the season on an unassisted tally. That lead stood into halftime before the Bulldogs added two more markers in the second half to provide the final margin.

Junior Amy Pulcini (Easton, PA/Easton) made it 2-0 with her sixth goal of the year on an assist from fellow junior Kelsey Strowhouer (Wilmington, DE/Brandywine) and Matthews tallied her second of the game at the 51:19 mark on another assist from Strowhouer to give the Bulldogs a three-goal cushion.

DeSales returns to action tomorrow when they finish the 2009 season with a home game vs. King's College beginning at 3:00 pm.
